Women’s Addiction Recovery Group

The inaugural Women’s Group was held on March 2, 2012 and runs every Friday morning from 9-11am. The group is facilitated by Paige Abbott (Registered Psychologist), Sue Newton (Registered Nurse) and Dr. Janette Hurley (Physician). The group is intended for women with 3 months of active recovery. This means that group members are motivated to engage in healthy recovery, which includes personal change and growth.

I am particularly honoured to be a facilitator in this new group as it offers a safe space for women to share their recovery successes and challenges with each other. I have heard from some clients, men and women alike, that there can be some discomfort in mixed group settings and certain concerns may be held back at times. Of course, the ideal is for everyone to find a group that feels safe for them; where they can be completely open and honest about where they are at. I hope that the Women’s Group will provide an additional alternative to compliment our men’s and mixed recovery groups.

There are available spots remaining in the Women’s Group but membership seems to be growing quickly! If you are interested and would like to learn more about the group, please do not hesitate to contact us at 403-536-2480.
