Individual counselling is when the client works one-on-one with a trained healthcare practitioner to address current life challenges and/or improve their overall sense of wellbeing.
At HUM, you have the option to begin your treatment with a comprehensive assessment or meet with one of our healthcare providers for an initial session. We will determine your needs and make recommendations based on this and in collaboration with you.
Individual counselling aims to increase the individual’s sense of his/her own well-being. At HUM, we use a range of techniques based on experiential relationship building, dialogue, communication and behavior change that are designed to improve the mental health of a client or patient and improve relationships with others.
Individual counselling at HUM is provided by our integrated health team that includes registered psychologists, registered social workers and physicians. Our psychotherapeutic approach draws from a variety of models and incorporates aspects of Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Rational Emotive Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, and Family System’s Therapy.
Individual counselling can be useful for receiving support for dealing with depression, grief and loss, anxiety, stress, fear, phobias, self-esteem, addiction, chronic pain, trauma or abuse.
Following the initial session, a treatment plan will be created, which may include weekly, biweekly, monthly, or quarterly appointments depending on your needs. Individual counselling at HUM can be short or long-term in nature and can incorporate psychological and personality testing to help further explore an individual’s current challenges and needs.
