What is hypnotherapy?

There are many misconceptions when it comes to hypnosis. People will often think of stage shows they have seen where people are made to squawk like chickens, pretend they are frogs, and do other silly things for the benefit of the crowd. It appears that people are completely out of control and under the whim of the hypnotherapist. This, in fact, is not true. In hypnotherapy you will hear everything the hypnotherapist is saying and reject any suggestions that do not fit with your morals, beliefs, or desires. The people in the stage show signed up to have fun, agreed to be silly just by being on stage and, therefore, were open to the suggestions given to them. If they had been asked to hurt someone or do something dangerous, they would immediately come out of that relaxed state as their brain rejected these suggestions.

Hypnotherapy is a state of calm relaxation where suggestions can be given to, and accepted by, the subconscious or unconscious mind. It can be used for a variety of conditions, including Addiction, Mental Health, and Chronic Pain, as well as general relaxation and dealing with stress or anxiety.

What does a session look like?

A typical hypnotherapy session will last for one hour. The initial session will include a discussion of hypnosis, the process, as well as your goals. For hypnotherapy to be most effective, one goal is addressed at a time as the mind can get confused if multiple issues are being addressed.

One session of hypnotherapy can provide some relaxation and relief but for the process to be most effective, 3-4 sessions are recommended depending on the issue, plus continued self-hypnosis practice outside of sessions.

How does hypnosis feel?

It feels like a deep state of relaxation, not sleep. Your mind and body will be calm, comfortable, and relaxed and you will be aware of everything happening around you, including the voice and words of the hypnotherapist
